Where does the name Flying Bulldogs come from?

One of the most popular questions we get is "Where did you come up with the name Flying Bulldogs?" Well, that is a good story. Our first bulldog was an Olde Victorian bulldog by the name of Zap. Now, even if you don't know anything at all about bulldogs, there is one thing that you probably are aware of... they tend to be a little "top heavy", big broad chests with small narrow flanks. Zap was a rather large bulldog, weighing in at about 95 pounds with a massive chest.

So... as the story goes.... when our son was small, he would love to run with his best friend Zap around the back yard. Of course, little boys can stop on a dime, pivot & change directions with great agility. Unfortunately, bulldogs don't always have that same ability to stop so adroitly from a full out run. He would stop all right.... but momentum was not his friend shall we say. And so was born Flying Bulldogs.

Sadly, Zap is no longer with us, but his spirit lives on. Recently another bulldog has entered our lives. Zen is a French Bulldog/ English Bulldog mix. We were able to rescue him from a not so great situation. He lived outside in a wired cage for the first 2 years of his life, but happily, he is now adjusting nicely to being an "inside" dog and getting to know his "brother" OJ, a terrier mix rescue and his "cousin" Pica, a poodle/shih tzu mix rescue. Zen is about half the size of Zap, and our son is grown, but we will let you know if Zen develops Zap's great ability to "fly".
